Growing up and even into college, I did not see a strong female South Asian figure of representation in the fitness industry that women like me could look up to. It was hard for me to imagine that someone from my background could achieve the same strength or physical potential as other bodybuilders and athletes, especially due to cultural and societal stereotypes of South Asian genetics and lifestyles.
As someone who has struggled heavily with my self-image as a South Asian woman, it was challenging for me to believe I was capable of being better. I lost over 30 pounds in 2021 after years of struggling with binge eating, kickstarted my lifting journey, and showed myself a glimpse of my true potential. I want to inspire more women like me to take up space in the gym, push heavy weight, and even to become represented by their favorite fitness brands!
